On January 15-16 in Berlin, Energy Peace Partners joined 100+ international public and private sector experts committed to clean energy solutions that increase energy access for displaced people in humanitarian settings. This first-of-its-kind event pushes the international community to start rethinking its almost total reliance on diesel for crisis response. Based on our work developing the Peace Renewable Energy Credit (PREC), EPP contributed to the discussion on innovative finance for sustainable energy in fragile settings.
Our key takeaways: The current grant funding model remains severely limited. There is increasingly an appetite in this space, including from traditional donors, for replicable private sector initiatives that are informed by reliable market data and that can mitigate risk. The peace benefits of renewable energy remain largely unexplored.
