EPP joins IGC and g7+ call for clean energy in fragile states

Over 800 million people worldwide have no access to electricity. More than 8 out of 10 of them live in countries characterized by conflict. Scaling up energy access is critical to power the economic opportunities needed to lift people out of poverty and escape fragility, and to achieve the SDGs.

EPP is joining a call to action to ramp up investments in clean energy to break the cycle of poverty and support recovery from COVID-19 in fragile states, and honored that the Peace Renewable Energy Credit was one of the initiatives mentioned in the Call. The Call is led by the Council on State Fragility - co-chaired by former UK Prime Minister David Cameron, former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and former President of the African Development Bank Donald Kaberuka - and the g7+, an intergovernmental organization bringing together 20 countries affected by conflict and fragility.
